CoLabs Response to COVID-19

CoLabs Response to COVID-19

As the COVID-19 situation continues to evolve, the CoLabs is following mandated UCSF guidelines and have shut down all non-essential laboratory-based research activities. We encourage you to contact the appropriate CoLabs team directors to discuss how their team may be able to support essential COVID-19-related research. For COVID-19 related projects that could make use of multiple CoLabs teams under the CoProjects model, please contact the CoLabs Chief Strategist, Andrea Barczak.

Please see below for an updated summary of ongoing activities for each of the CoLabs.

CoLabs Teams:

D2B CoLab

If any COVID-19 related experiments or other experiments deemed as essential research need support, please contact Alexis Combes. A skeleton crew will maintain critical equipment.

Flow CoLab

All PFCC self-use equipment will still remain available to groups doing critical work, including COVID-19 related research.

There will be limited CoLab staff assistance onsite during the shutdown. If you have any questions or issues, please contact our staff who will be working remotely or call our Help Line for Instrument Issues at 415-745-2150. To contact us for non-urgent issues, please use our staff contact list.

During the Shutdown

Self-use Flow Cytometer Analyzers will remain available for critical research only. Each user will be responsible for running a daily QC protocol using CS&T [the protocol will be posted on S854 and S864 fridges] and following the usual instructions for startup and shutdown procedures from the respective instrument quick-guides.

Self-use Luminex will remain available for critical research only. Each user will be responsible for running the established startup/shutdown protocol.

Self-use Flow Cytometer Cell Sorters will remain available for critical research only for labs with trained SuperUsers.

Self-use Mass Cytometers / CyTOFs will NOT be available during the shutdown period except by special arrangement for use in certain critical federally-funded COVID-19 projects.

A CoLab staff skeleton crew is ready to return on-site if critical functions require assistance. Please email flowassist@ucsf.edu and cc: Claudia.Bispo@ucsf.edu and Vinh.Nguyen@ucsf.edu if that is the case.

Genomics CoLab

If any COVID-19 related experiments or other experiments deemed as essential research need support, please contact Walter Eckalbar. Bioinformatic analysis and consulting operations will continue during the shutdown, and we encourage interested individuals to sign up for office hours.

Biological Imaging Development CoLab (BIDC)

If any COVID-19 related experiments or other experiments deemed as critical research need support, please contact Kyle Marchuk.

During the Shutdown

Instruments are still available for use for essential research. Please wipe them down with 70% ethanol before and after use. No immediate instrument related assistance is available. BIDC will perform once per week walkthroughs. Report instrument emergencies to the BIDC hotline (415-745-2432) and Kyle Marchuk. Training, pilots, and in-person help sessions are suspended.

Data Analysis is available virtually for consultation, assistance, etc. Please contact Kyle Marchuk initially to set up a virtual session. Bitplane has announced limited satellite licenses available for users. Workstations will become available through TeamViewer soon.

For project support, we are available online for consultations, collaborations, grant proposals, methods writing, manuscript support, etc.
